Grusswort des OberbürgermeistersSie ist längst zu Münchens Jazz-Mekka geworden, und auch das ist noch untertrieben: Denn nach dem übereinstimmenden Urteil der Fachleute zählt die "Unterfahrt" zu den führenden Jazzclubs in Deutschland, ja sogar zu den Top Ten in Europa. Gerade in München, wo die Jazzszene beileibe nicht immer die Entfaltungsmöglichkeiten fand, die man ihr gewünscht hat, verdient das ganz besonderen Respekt und Anerkennung - und natürlich auch Unterstützung. Endlos lang ist die Reihe international renommierter Musiker und Formationen die in der "Unterfahrt" in den letzten 25 Jahren gastiert haben, von 1978 bis 1998 in der legendären Jazzkneipe an der Kirchenstraße, und anschließend im Kellergewölbe des Einstein-Kulturzentrums. Doch nicht nur die Arrivierten und Etablierten gaben und geben sich hier die Klinke in die Hand, auch für zahlreiche Nachwuchstalente ist die Unterfahrt zum musikalischen Sprungbrett geworden. Damit hat der Förderkreis Jazz und Malerei nicht nur sich selber, sondern auch der Musik- und Jazzstadt München alle Ehre gemacht. Und dafür sage ich mit der herzlichen Gratulation zum 25-jährigen Bestehen auch meinen herzlichen Dank und wünsche zugleich auch ein erfolgreiches "keep swinging" für die kommenden Jahre. I have performed at the Jazzclub Unterfahrt Munchen many times
over many years. I have performed with my own groups and as a musician
in other ensembles. This club had always been a pleasure to play
in. The atmosphere is very conducive to creative music, and the
management is always professional, helpful, and wonderful! Sincerely, |

| I have always loved playing at the Unterfahrt
because it is an important and a welcoming place that presents
a wide and open spectrum of music.The variety of great musicians that
have performed at the Unterfahrt in the past years has been an important
contribution to the cultural life of Munich as well as a wonderful
opportunity for musicians to perform for such a receptive audience.The
musicians have always appreciated the hospitality of the Unterfahrt
and the receptivity of the public there. It would be a shame if the

It was a pleasure to perform in the Jazzclub Unterfahrt München. It provides a much needed professional atmosphere where musicians, international and national, can perform in Munich. It is a bonus for the cultural prestige of the community. Its demise would leave Munich with few adequate clubs dedicated to the presentation of creative music. Ralph Towner |
